Categories A, B & C are defined below.

FLIGHT CATEGORY DEFINITIONS

CATEGORY A

Intensive Care Patient: requiring ventilation +/- multi-organ support

Intensive Care Doctor, Flight Nurse, Crew Member

CATEGORY B

High Dependency Patient: requiring single system support or at risk of deterioration

Flight Nurse, Crew Member

CATEGORY C

Transit Patient: returning home or coming to Wellington for elective surgery

Transit Care Nurse, Crew Member

Accompanying ICU Staff as % of all CCDHB flights

Dataset taken from 2,626 transfers between January 2008 & April 2011.

Category B is defined above.
